SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
The School Principal is a dynamic educational leader who will be effective in accomplishing our district purpose of fostering powerful equitable learning for all students by providing strong instructional leadership in all aspects of the school program. The Principal provides leadership in the education and development of the whole child with expertise in, instructional guidance, curriculum, social emotional development, effective discipline strategies, facilities management, and support service for the school site. The School Principal is an important member of the District management team and reports directly to the Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Examples of the Principal’s duties are:
Work closely with school staff and School Site Council to identify instructional goals in conjunction with major district objectives; develop long- and short-range plans to improve the instructional process including board equity goals.
Plan, develop, organize, and administer support systems and intervention programs which optimize the learning opportunities for all pupils (general education, English Learner, and special education students).
Confer and consult with school and District personnel, parents, and pupils pertaining to academic and behavioral issues and establish alternative interventions.
Ability to structure and implement an effective behavior support plan.
Direct, supervise, observe, assess, and evaluate site personnel performance. Ensure that all levels of staff adhere to District, state, and national educational and professional standards.
Support the curriculum development and instructional implementation of a standards-based educational program designed to meet the unique needs of students and community.
Work closely with school staff and School Site Council to identify instructional goals in conjunction with Major District Objectives; develop long- and short-range plans to improve the instructional process. Follow Compliance areas with School Site Council and ELAC Committees.
Work collaboratively with parent and community organizations to bring both financial an in-kind donations to provide resources to support school programs.
Maintain and utilize student and staff performance evaluation information to ensure site goals and objectives are achieved.
Work to establish a results-based school culture through the continuous collection, examination and use of data; initiate ongoing opportunities for teachers, students, and parents to understand and utilize data as a means to improve instruction and learning.
Plan, develop, organize, and administer support systems and intervention programs which optimize the learning opportunities for all pupils (regular, EL, and special education students).
Plan, develop, organize, and equitably administer enrichment programs which optimize the learning opportunities for all pupils.
Review, evaluate, requisition, purchase, and allocate instructional resources, supplies, and equipment to enhance programs and support school wide goals.
Confer and consult with school and District personnel, parents, and pupils pertaining to academic and behavioral issues and establish alternative interventions.
Direct, supervise, observe, assess, and evaluate site personnel performance. Ensure that all levels of staff adhere to District, state, and national educational and professional standards.
Establish and maintain teamwork, collaboration, and a collegial working environment.
Confer with instructional and support personnel in developing alternative solutions to unusual or unforeseen problems.
Participate in budget planning activities, and develop expenditure review and control procedures to ensure a cost beneficial and cost effective operational mode.
Assume a leadership role in the functions and activities of site and District advisory committees and groups.
Assist the educational community in understanding the site, District and state goals and objectives, and the strategies utilized for achieving them.
Participate in the planning, development, implementation, interpretation, and administration of policies, rules, and regulations, and negotiated employee agreements.
Supervise, direct, and coordinate the assignment of instructional personnel and student classroom assignments in accordance with CSR mandates and District staffing allocations.
Coordinate student and family assistance programs with local service agencies.
Plan, develop, and provide management reports pertaining to the functions, activities, and general educational climate of the school facility.
Confer with site personnel in resolving rights disputes which may include the conduct of formal hearings.
Assist in the conduct of effective and efficient personnel management systems, including the recruitment, selection, retention, and separation of personnel.
May be responsible for managing, monitoring, and evaluating specially funded programs to insure compliance with funding agency standards and guidelines.
KNOWLEDGE:
Ability to lead a school wide initiative to ensure in the socio-emotional growth and development of all students
In-depth knowledge of California frameworks and curriculum alignment for middle schools
In depth understanding of Special Education laws and the ability to implement and manage site resources and programs
Understanding of and experience with budget management
Understanding of student attendance, SARB
Effective communication skills with individuals and groups
Experience with a wide range of staff development activities
Experience with categorical programs, at-risk students and special needs students
Effective skills to guide problem solving and decision making
Experience with multicultural student populations
Ability to create, monitor, and adjust student policy and discipline guidelines
Ability to supervise student and parent extra-curricular activities
Ability to work with diverse groups of teachers
Ability to work with the District’s Administrative Team

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should possess exemplary personal qualities essential to this highly visible leadership position and should hold the highest expectations for the performance of self, staff, and students
Commitment to maintaining and strengthening the District’s quality instructional program.
Candidates should hold a Master’s Degree and hold or qualify for a California administrative credential
Effective leadership experience at a significant level in a school district. Five years or more preferred. Experience in Middle School required
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
