CBITS Counselor

Position Description:
The CBITS Counselor will work closely with the Lead Mental Health Counselor and the Mental Health Counselors at their assigned sites, and will be responsible for implementing and providing student counseling services in compliance with the Cognitive Behavior Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) framework aimed at addressing students’ trauma through school-based counseling.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide direct therapeutic counseling support to students onsite through both individual and group therapy sessions
Receive training and implement counseling services following CBITS framework
Prioritize and coordinate services with the on-site Mental Health Counselor, school staff, and parents
Provide workshops to staff and parents around trauma and its effects on students and families
Maintain data/records of all students provided mental health counseling services
Participate in all training and meetings related to services for students, as needed
Share and report service hour logs, records, and data to the Lead Mental Health Counselor
Identify students in need of additional mental health services, and refer them to internal and external mental health providers for additional services
Work closely with outside mental health providers
Assess clients for danger to self or others
Additional activities and responsibilities as agreed to and in conjunction with the Lead Mental Health Counselor
Qualifications:
Prior experience as a mental health professional
Experience working with mental health agencies and service providers
Experience with, or knowledge of mental health/public health needs, specifically trauma
Demonstrated ability to work with and provide culturally competent services to diverse populations
Excellent written and oral skills
Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License
Ability to relate positively with children
Willingness and ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and staff
Strong Organizational Skills
Flexible, adaptable, able to bring groups together for a common goal
A working knowledge of computer technology
Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate district functions/events
Bilingual required (Spanish/English)
Education:
Must be registered as Licensed or an Associate with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Clinical Counselor
