Brief Description of Position
The Physical Education teacher is responsible for the implementation of the physical education program including direct instruction to students and providing support services to classroom teachers in implementing PE activities with their students.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Establish and implement standards of expected progress for students in physical education and fitness and assessment techniques of that progress in cooperation with the principal based upon the District standards.
Administer skill tests, California physical best tests, and written and verbal tests to assess student progress in physical education and fitness.
Monitor student activities on the playing field, gymnasium, blacktop, and classroom to ensure student safety.
Teach all content standards.
Encourage and give lessons on healthy eating and nutrition and wellness.
Address individual students’ needs by individualizing physical exercises and classroom assignments in addition to holding student conferences.
Maintain conditions and practices in the classroom that positively affect the physical and mental health of the students, such as instructing children to value students with different cultural backgrounds, physical characteristics, and learning styles.
Maintain student records utilizing a computer.
Promote individual growth in students.
Organize and maintain P.E. equipment.
Consult with teachers regarding additional classroom activities.
Qualifications Required
Appropriate Single Subject California Teaching Credential, or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and application to the CTC for an emergency credential.
Physical Abilities:
Sufficient vision to read material with or without vision aides;
Sufficient hearing to conduct in-person conversations with students, teachers and parents;
Sufficient voice volume to be heard at normal conversational distances;
Ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time;
Physical, mental and emotional stamina to endure stressful conditions;
Use hands to touch, handle, reach, feel objects, controls, or tools;
Ability to demonstrate gross and fine motor skills and movements to students
Occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds;
